We Need Your Help

Millions of children in rural China are growing up without parents, without real childhoods, without education, and in many cases without hope. We need your help to give these children what every child deserves: the chance to be a child.

About Us

Our mission is to seek the world where all youths are able to chase their dreams and experience fulfilling childhoods.

Wang Initiatives is a nonprofit foundation with the goal of providing education, basic needs, and care for disenfranchised children in China. Founded in 2012 by Kevin Wang, we have since helped over 300 children and spent over 20,000 dollars to help children in need. Each summer, we conduct trips around Shandong, China to teach, hire community teachers, and provide various services to improve the quality of life for children and their families.

The Problem

It is an understatement to say children in China do not grow up with the luxuries American children are afforded. Impoverished and orphaned children do not even have the opportunity to receive a basic education. In rural villages, as the video below shows, many children are left for months at a time to fend for themselves with only a frail, often illiterate, grandparent there to watch over them. Children diagnosed with cancer are often left untreated and waiting to die due to a lack of financial means. Many children with special needs are uneducated and illiterate, living a life in total despair.

A Letter From the Founder

The first time that I was inspired to start this fund was in my Grandmother’s home in Shandong, China. My mother had just finished telling me the story of her father, my grandfather. At the time, I was glad it was dark so that no one could see the tears I failed to hold back. My grandfather lost his father in a war when he was 8 years old, a mere 2nd grader in elementary school. Being the eldest man in the family, he was now obligated to work and provide for his family.

He was forced to forfeit his education and leave school to work alongside the adults in the fields each day. He never earned more than just enough to eat, and sometimes not even that. Later, he often sacrificed his own meals so that my mother and her brothers could eat their fill. Upon reaching middle age, he was diagnosed with cancer. With no money, no options, and no salvation, my grandfather continued to work until the pain became too great, before succumbing to the disease after a painful bedridden year. I still remember a statement my mother told me that night: “无论我们现在有多少钱,他永远享受不到我们的成功. No matter how much money and comfort we have now, he will never get to experience it himself.” My grandfather knew nothing but labor and hardship for his entire life.

I don’t think that any child deserves this fate; no person should have to experience this for any reason – handicap, wealth, disease, or parentage included. Six years ago, I started this foundation on that very dream – the dream that these children would no longer have to suffer. Back then our impact was only that of a small family effort, with funds of a few hundred dollars. However, in the past two years, we have made substantial progress. With a larger support group and the ability to contribute thousands of dollars, we have been enabled to help more children than ever before, in a larger radius than ever before. I am so proud to say that in 2015 we raised nearly 5000 dollars, all of which went to education and quality of life for 78 children in Laixi, China. I would like to thank each and every person who has donated and assisted with our cause so far and invite all to donate or join us on our mission. I look forward to a brighter tomorrow where all children receive the care and education that they deserve.

Sincerely,
Kevin Wang
